This time, the scary outbreak-of-the-year may well be a real condition. Doctors in Brazil have noticed a dramatic increase, since August-September 2015, in “pinhead babies” – infants born with shrunken heads and other brain damage, a tragic condition called microcephaly. But is a virus really causing the outbreak?
In this episode of “The Infectious Myth” Internet radio show, Rethinking AIDS president and “How Positive Are You” co-host David Crowe applies experience honed in debunking the HIV theory of AIDS to consider the “Zika” panic. With New York independent researcher Jim West, he looks at the research connecting this virus to microcephaly. LISTEN HERE.
The original research on Zika, from the late 1940s and early 1950s, sought to prove Zika’s connection not to microcephaly but to malaria (yellow fever). West has uncovered just how manipulative the animal research was, studying laboratory processes never seen in nature. Scientists disagree as to how small a microcephalic head has to be. And West mentions that even some mainstream media outlets have been surprisingly candid about Zika’s detection around only about 4% of the Brazilian microcephaly cases (although he may have meant to say 2%, as investigative reporter Jon Rappoport relayed). (This citation of even less than 2% is interesting as well.)
Even the mainstream literature suggests many co-factors, he says. These include chromosomal abnormalities; decreased oxygen to the brain; fetal infections; drugs, alcohol and toxic chemicals (excluding pharmaceutical drugs, but why?); malnutrition; and complications of delivery.
In addition, some have suggested alternative, non-viral causes for the current outbreak. The Telegraph has reported an Argentine doctors’ group’s concerns about a larvicide added to water sources. (Quote: “But the WHO says a definitive link between the disease and the condition is within weeks of being confirmed.” What? Not yet confirmed?) Others suspect vaccinations given to pregnant women, particularly Tdap (DPT). One widely publicized theory points to the recent release of GMO mosquitoes into the environment. West highlights some problems with these narrow theories while affirming that generally, pesticides, vaccine additives and other chemicals are well established causes of birth defects.
As with AIDS, it is troubling that scientists and media point so readily to questionable viruses instead of toxins.
