John Virapen worked in the pharmaceutical industry for 35 years, eventually becoming managing director of the Swedish operations of Eli Lilly and Company. In that position, he became adept at corruption and bribery. His books Side Effects: Death – Confessions of a Pharma-Insider and Medicine Cult – A Prescription for Side Effects and Death describe the inner workings of the “corrupt dream factory” that international pharmaceutical companies have built. In this Episode, he talks with “How Positive Are You” co-host Elizabeth Ely about the invention of profitable new diseases, the rush to drug nearly everyone’s kids and the recent Ebola “epidemic.”
