In today’s program, we speak with Ken Murray, a single heterosexual man who, after years of absorbing mainstream media messages about AIDS, believed it was a plague that could wipe out the world, and that HIV positives should be tattooed to prevent “the spread of infection.” But when his girlfriend Tanya unexpectedly tested HIV positive, Ken was forced to confront his beliefs. Starting at a local bookstore, the couple began a journey of discovery that took her from HIV positive to HIV negative and brought Ken around from a self described “AIDS Nazi” to an HIV skeptic. Christine gives an update on Tanya who was doing fine (and testing negative) after she and Ken had gone their separate ways.
News items include a study showing that circumcision does not reduce “HIV” among gay men; a parasite that can lower T cell counts (and also raise ‘viral load’); the more AIDS drugs a woman takes during pregnancy, the worse the outcome for her baby; how the latest AIDS treatment, Raltegravir, is associated with significant increases in depression; and the initiation of mandatory testing in Uganda. Also, more on the Nobel Prize for the alleged discovery of HIV.
And…our first contest!
